The Dew Tour is coming up and it’s no small task to put on an event of this size. Crews arrive two weeks in advance along with 19 tractor trailers, and tons of boxes full of everything from shwag to scaffolding and tents.
First to go up the Twin Towers. The two control towers that are placed at the bottom of Inferno and the Pipe. These are the center of all the action as basically the entire event operation is run out of these two structures during the tour. Judges, NBC, lighting, and sound all live in the bottom levels while the top level is the VIP level. Here corporate sponsors and other VIPs have a bird’s eye view of all the action in both the pipe and the slope style.

So who’s responsible for what? Basically the first to arrive are the folks from Murphy Production. These guys handle not only the Winter Dew Tour but also the Summer Dew Tour and all the technical aspects of the event. Everything from port o johns to lighting towers go through the desk of Murphy. Meet guys like Jasko, Rogers, Drew, Dylan and the man with the plan Isert. This year they arrived the day we got the deluge of rain but got after it the next day and two towers were up in an afternoon.

Others to arrive early …SPT. Short for Snow Park Technologies. Aaron, Elliot and three yellow BR’s as in Grooming machines arrived on Monday. These guys are the leaders in on-snow competition courses and well park technology. While our guys like Gaitor, Elia, Tim, TJ, Kyle and Mike all build our parks and rival any in the country, SPT provides the same level of competition across the three stops along the tour. SPT builds basically all the major competitions in the US including the X GAMES, DEW TOUR, and US SNOWBOARDING OPEN at Stratton. Our guys get the areas ready and these guys come in and pimp it up.

(hey look it’s the carinthia mini-half… somebody should cover her up for the winter!)
From ALLI the first to arrive every year is our friend Mandy. Head of logistics. She’s awesome and we love her. Always available, always with a great smile and just ready with an answer or a plan when you need it. She’s got everything in her head, never writes anything down, and enjoys having a beer or two and some tater tots at the DBAG. She tells us Vermont is her favorite stop.
Mount Snow and our team of Gaitor, Vinnie, Elia, Dave, and Fisher are all involved with the planning and support while they’re on-site. Forklift cats, loader support, parking and security all fall under our area and often there are little “big” things that come up that Mount Snow helps out solving issues. We also have to come up with awards presenters, specialty awards (ours is sick by the way just figured out today, we’ll show you in a few days) and today the fun project of the morning – concrete. Not just a little some major blocks. Last year some of the concrete left behind by Murphy was utilized over the summer by Mount Snow for other venues, oops. Well they need it back now so today we are on the hunt for concrete to hold down some tents, cause you know it’s never windy here. Never. Problem – 3yards of concrete weighs close to 3,000 lbs. Not an easy fix. We’ll make it happen.
By Monday, the Carinthia Base Area should be transformed into a little village of banners, Dew Tour staff, and a flurry of activity as the sponsors begin to arrive and the majority of Dew Tour Staff.

Keep it here for the latest photos and updates as we approach The Toyota Championship – the final stop of the 2010 Winter Dew Tour!
