Pop-Up Jams

Posted on 20. Dec, 2011 by in C BLOG

We are not going tell you where or when because that defeats the purpose of a Pop-Up Jam!  Well I guess we have to tell you when to make sure everyone is ready for it right?!

On Tuesday December 27 and Thursday December 29 we will randomly pick a feature in one of our parks and have a 45min. jam sesh on it.  There will be one jam each morning somewhere around 10am & 11am and one each afternoon somewhere around 1pm & 2pm.  The sick part of a Pop-Up jam is that’s all the info you get, so make sure you’re ready on the spur of the moment!

-There is no entry fee! But, you must register for this event.  Registration will take place in the Carinthia lodge each morning from 8am – 9am.
-If you over sleep, yes you can register at the jam, but that will cut into your time to compete.
-Once you register you will get a little sticker to put on your pass or lift ticket.  This sticker can be used at any of the Pop-Up Jams that week.
-You don’t have to register to join in, however no registration = no awesome prizes.
-There will be two Pop-Up Jams on Tuesday Dec 27 and two on Thursday Dec 29. The first one around 10am or 11am and the second around 1pm or 2pm.
-It’s open to both skiers and riders!

Favorite Feature – Opening Day

Posted on 10. Dec, 2011 by in C BLOG

After the Bluebird Express celebration this morning, I took a few laps through Carinthia to check out what the Park Crew did and to snap some pictures of the features. I hadn’t touched my board since the Peace Pipe Jam so I was hella rusty, but it was still super exciting to get on the snow and do a little sideways sliding.

The Park Crew did a real good job with the amount of snow they had to work with, which was not much.  They picked some good jibs to put out like our medium sized double kink, 2” square stock down rail and the new 10” wide metal box.  My favorite feature though has to be the flat down corrugated tube at the bottom of the Gulch.  At the kink, the tube changes to a down and redirects you to the right.  There is also separate lips setup that are angled just at the down section.

Pretty cool.  I’m going to be a little disappointed when they take that feature out, but I’ll be over it when I’m hitting the jump that has taken its place.

Film Festival

Posted on 21. Nov, 2011 by in C BLOG

I know what I will be doing on December 3 after rippin’ all day (weather permitting); going to the Mount Snow Film Festival.  I’m going to get myself a chicken, bacon, honey mustard and cheddar cheese pizza and put down a couple beverages while enjoying some great shred videos.

The video line up is Matchstick Productions’ “Attack of La Niña,” Rome’s “The Shred Remains,” and our own “C The Movie.”

So remember 5:30 at the Snow Barn, 21+ after the videos play and all the partying after.

**** In light of a recent tragedy involving a local family we will be selling $1.00 raffle tickets.  All proceeds will go the help the family during this difficult time. ****
You will be put in a drawing for prizes which include Rome t-shirts, a Carinthia hoodie, goggles, Rome gloves, “Attack of La Niña” DVD, Skullcandy headphones, a Carinthia Trail sign plus some other hotness.

New Freestyle Terrain Manager

Posted on 25. Oct, 2011 by in C BLOG

This year there will be a new face around Carinthia.  Day Franzen.  Day is no newbie, he has been building park for almost 20 years.  He most recently owned Kingvale in Tahoe; one of the country’s first all mountain parks.  He has built parks for “Jackass 3″, TW Snow shoots, and manages the operations of the Tailgate Alaska Festival.

Day has told me that he wants to make Carinthia a destination for professional photo and video shoots and continue the progression and creativity of the builders before him.

Knowing that he has the experience and resources to make all this happen makes me that much more pumped on this season!!!

Sunday Video Shoot

Posted on 21. Mar, 2011 by in C BLOG

I have been watching the weather for a few weeks waiting for a day with temps that weren’t too warm or cold, and where the closest cloud was hundreds of miles away.  Sunday was that day.  It didn’t take long to get a crew of riders (Timmy Sullivan, Anthony Corbo, Dillon Wilson, Wyatt Mosher, Austin Schweyher, Jack Scheufele, Jeff Pote) and skiers (Luke Hagearty, Zhach Pham, Brendan Bauer) that I knew would put it down.

Unfortunately Jeff Pote and Timmy Sullivan got taken out pretty early.  Pote over rotated, dragging his face down the landing and Timmy popped wrong and landed straight up on his hip.  With the help of two Park Rangers, Dan and Mikey, doing transports with the snowmobile, and the beautiful sunlight, everyone else got some good stock tricks and dropped some hammers.

Girls Day Out Clinic

Posted on 14. Mar, 2011 by in C BLOG

So if you asked Jess or any of the other girls that were here yesterday, they would say that Girls Day was awesome!  There were girls of all ability levels that learned something that they had never done before.  One girl had never hit a jump before but by the end of the day her coach Emma had her doing front and back ones on the bigger jump in Grommet.

After seeing how much of a success it was we can’t wait to do it again next season and hope that more girls attend each year!
